Registration Guidelines for Liaisons, Debaters,
and Adjudicators
This document aims to explain all the things you need to know in order to successfully register for KHSDC V.
Registration Process
• November 3rd to 26th: STEP 1 - Pre-Registration
• November 29th: STEP 2 – Tournament Pool Announced
• December 1st to 5th: STEP 3 : Payment
Registration Fees
• Registration Fee: 150,000 KRW/debater (450,000 KRW /team) - Same as last year
• Debate Explorer: 30,000 KRW
Step 1 : Pre-Registration (November 3rd to 26th)
During this period each school registers the teams they intend to send to KHSDC V. You may register as many teams as you like, but only the first 2 are confirmed. The remaining teams will be placed on a waiting list. We will try to accept as many teams as possible, but are constrained by our team cap (60 teams) and the need to ensure diverse representation. See the next section for more on our waiting list policy.
Faculty and Student Liaisons
The Convenor is not responsible for the selection or prioritization of multiple team applications from a single institution. Schools must select a faculty member as their Faculty Liaison and a student to act as their Student Liaisons, both are responsible for processing their schools applications. The Convenor will only accept those applications that have been approved by each school’s Liaison. Multiple applications from one institution will be redirected to that recognised Liaison for prior approval.
Registration Documents
The KHSDC V Registration Packet and individual forms are available on the DOWNLOADS page. These .pdf forms can be filled-out by using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat and are to be saved, in English, in the following manner:

After these documents have been properly completed and saved they should be archived into a .zip file and saved in the following manner:
For Example: HAFS_Registration.zip
Then that archive should be e-mailed to: apply@khsdc.com
Therefore the following documents must be sent PRIOR to November 26th at 5 pm:
One KHSDC V Registration Form (one per school);
One KHSDC V Debater's Pledge per debater (three per team);
One KHSDC V Adjudicator's Pledge per judge (one per team)*;
One KHSDC V MPJ CV per judge (one per team);
Only registration forms that are correctly and completely filled in will be accepted. You will receive a confirmation email at latest 2 days after registration. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt, so if you do not get your confirmation email, please contact us immediately.
Minimum Adjudicator Requirement
There will also be a minimum N-1 adjudicator requirement (in accordance with Article 54), which means each institution that is registering for the tournament must also register at least as many adjudicators as the total number of teams minus 1. Therefore,
• 1-Team = 0-Adjudicators
• 2-Teams = 1-Adjudicator
• 3-Teams = 2-Adjudicators
• 4-Teams = 3-Adjudicators
• 5-Teams = 4-Adjudicators
• 6-Teams = 5-Adjudicators
• 506-Teams = 505-Adjudicators
Liaisons must disclose the following to all their Adjudicators
Adjudicators must commit to the ‘Length of Service’ requirement (Article 78 KHSDC Rules);
Adjudicators must submit their KHSDC V Adjudicator's Pledge.pdf to their Liaison before November 25th;
Adjudicators must submit their KHSDC V MPJ CV.pdf to their Liaison before November 25th.
Liaisons are encouraged to contact school alumni, parents, and teachers to serve as adjudicators. See below for eligibility requirements regarding adjudicators. Adjudicators must have a good command of the English language and be able to follow the flow of a debate, but do not necessarily need prior debating experience. Liaisons are also welcome to post calls for judges on the local debate community listservers: WeDebate is the middle/high school debate message board; Korea Debate List is the collegiate debate message board.
In cases where a Liaison is unable to get a sufficient number of adjudicators for most registered teams, the Convenor may be able to place the Liaison in contact independent judges through contacts with the college debate community. Liaisons who find themselves in this position should contact the Convenor at least one week before registration closes on November 26th.
Step 2 : Tournament Pool Announced (November 29th)
At this point we will release a full list of teams that we can accommodate for KHSDC V. Our policy for selecting the teams is as such
while space is available, accept 2 teams per institution that have correctly and completely registered within the allocated registration period, based on a first-come-first-serve basis
if there is more room in the tournament to accept more teams, we will accept ONE team from each institution on the waiting list on a RANDOM basis.
if there are more spaces available, we will accept ONE more team from each institution on the waiting list based on a random basis. Repeat this process until all spaces are filled up or waiting list is empty
At this stage we will release a list of teams that have successfully made the Tournament Pool, and the list of teams remaining on the waiting list. If there are more teams on the waiting list at this point, they will still be active until the end of Step 3.
Step 3 : Payment (December 1st to 5th)
Teams that have successfully passed Step 2 must make full payment within this period to ensure successful registration. If your payment is not received, you will lose your place to another team on the waiting list. The exact payment details will be released later, but again, it is your responsibility to ensure successful payment.
If payments are not made in time, your place will be offered to remaining teams on the waiting list using the same system in Step 2.
Therefore the following document must be sent PRIOR to December 5th at 5 pm:
One KHSDC V Payment Receipt Form (one per school);
