Welcome debaters to the 5th Korean High School Debating Championships! It gives me great pleasure to be able to invite you to Chung Ang University for this milestone event!

Hosting debate tournaments are such incredible adventures. It's always more difficult than it looks, but ends up being more meaningful that you anticipated. At least that's what Logan keeps telling me to persuade me into hosting another debate event!

But quite honestly, I've always encouraged the students of Chung Ang University to be as involved in debate as they can. We've had a long history of hosting tournaments, beginning with the 2
nd Korean National Championships, then the first All-Asians Championships in North East Asia, the CAU-IDEA Pacific Rim Championships and now the 5th KHSDC. There is no better place to discover and express your love for debate, than at a debate tournament.

I believe that debate is more than just a fun activity (that can sometimes be stressful!). It is a skill that will help you learn and understand your world. It is a natural part of the process of thinking and expressing, something that will affect everything that you do.

My advice to you is that as you develop yourself as a debater, also develop yourself as a person. Think about the things you talk about and the way you talk about them. Debate will help you develop your voice, but you are the person who has to decide when and how to use it.

Best of luck for the tournament!
